FERROVIE NORD MILANO
The city of Milan is served by the companies TrenItalia (ex State Railways) and Ferrovie Nord Milano.

Internet Site: www.ferrovienord.it
Information (also for disabled people), tel. 02 20222 (from 7.00am to 8.00pm)
Ferrovie Nord trains connect Milan with the provinces of Como and Varese.

The main station is located in Piazza Cadorna (Underground MM 1): the platforms and ticket office are accessible to disabled people.
No specific assistance for disabled travellers is provided for, however in some stations it is possible to be assisted in getting on and off the train: it is necessary to arrange this service in advance by phoning 02-20222 and asking for the Client Assistance Office.

The stations between Milano Nord Bovisa and Saronno are accessible because they are equipped with automatic doors, lifts and/or stairlifts and the platforms are 60 cm high. The other stations are in the process of being progressively adapted.

Ferrovie Nord has begun to use a certain number of trains called "TAF" (treni ad alta frequentazione/high frequence trains). They are completely accessible to disabled travellers because the floor of the train is at the same level as the station platform (60 cm) and they are equipped with accessible toilets.

Access to "traditional" trains is guaranteed by the use of elevators in the Milano Cadorna and Saronno stations.
On board the trains there is no specific area adapted for passengers on wheel-chairs; normally the trip is spent in the areas near the driver's cabin.

A 40% discount on the price of single or return tickets is available for blind passengers - and for their escorts - who are members of the Unione Italiana Ciechi (Italian Association for the Blind), on presentation of the membership card when buying the ticket. Guide dogs travel free of charge.
